Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is safe when prescribed and managed by a trained physician for severe pain. However, fentanyl is also 100 times stronger than morphine which can result in overdose and death when used illicitly. Many counterfeit pills bought ‘off the street’ contain fentanyl.
